One of the unexpected joys of travel for many people to the Big Island is his discovery of the rich and varied history tapestry that weaves around the island of Hawaii. Hawaii is the only state in the union that has palaces of the king, the temples to the gods of the surf and architectural history and spanning a millennium and a half. Many people do not realize that the Kona Coast is an important region of the main fishing villages, taro farms and places of worship for a millennium and a half. However, the Kona region rose to rise as a religious and political center, when King Umi founded their capital in the 16th century.

In 1812, King Kamehameha Kona Kailua established as the capital of the new United Kingdom of Hawaii. For nearly 400 years, temples and palaces of the Kona region served as a kind of Rome of the Pacific, one of the great political and cultural centers in Polynesia, to the capital of the kingdom moved to Honolulu in 1850 by Kamehameha III . Falling in a dream, back in territorial waters lethargy, City and District Kailua Kona sleep softly through the decades of the plantation era and early statehood in modern times. Today, booming, exciting, fast-paced this area is the center of economic and cultural renaissance of the Big Island in the new century. Just remember, when I describe the Kona District as a … fast rise and exciting area, I mean boom and exciting in a very Hawaiian, smooth and relaxed.
